Release Plan and Objectives
TopBraid Suite 4.2 introduces a collection of improvements and bug fixes, especially related to Enterprise Vocabulary Network (EVN) and SPARQL Web Pages (SWP) as well as TopBraid Composer improvements. 4.2 also includes the first release of capabilities similar to those known from TopBraid Ensemble in the 3.x series.
This release provides the first 4.x version of TopBraid Live. As with 3.x releases, TopBraid EVN and Live are provided both as a stand-alone server application and via the personal server bundled within TopBraid Composer Maestro Edition (TBC-ME). TopBraid EVN and TopBraid Live are provided within TBC-ME for evaluation, customization, administrative and testing purposes, not for production use. To activate EVN in TBC-ME, go to Help > Open EVN Editor.
Key Improvements of 4.2
TopBraid Enterprise Vocabulary Net (EVN)
- Improvements to Search forms: support for nested forms, saving and restoring queries, transitive and skos:narrower fields.
- New Undo button.
- Semantic constraints that previously could only be created in TopBraid Composer, can now be edited on the EVN using web browser interface.
- Layout and performance improvements.
- Each software module in the EVN family – vocabulary manager, vocabulary browser, tagger – can now be installed on separate servers.
TopBraid Platform Features available for Composer, Live and Ensemble
- A new gadget framework for SWP/SWA makes assembly of semantic web applications from reusable building blocks even easier.
- Added SWA default application that can serve as starting point for a typical browse-and-search scenario over RDF/OWL models.
- SPARQL end point now has a web front end.
- Added an admin application to view and search for installed web services (SPIN or SPARQLMotion).
- SPARQLMotion module to populate a Solr/Lucene index with RDF data.
- Many SWP improvements and new SPIN functions.
- Re-introduced support for Oracle RDF.
- Performance improvements to D2RQ by delegating down to SQL additional operations (such as translating text matching into SQL LIKE statements).
TopBraid Composer (TBC)
- Overall performance and stability improvements.
- Support for simple SPIN syntax (using sp:text).
